Hi ya!

Have you ever visited a questionable website?

You exit out of it as quickly as you can.

But when you open up a new window in Chrome, you see that your search engine has been changed to something that spews out ads everywhere!

What you have is a simple browser hijack. Not a virus.

Every browser gets them.

On a Chromebook, it’s simple to fix the hijack.

All you should have to do is reset browser settings.

Now, in some cases, resetting browser settings does not work.

The browser hijack comes back!

That is caused by sync.

If you have your Chromebook account connected to another device, then you should disable sync temporary.

How to disable sync

This will be broken down in eight steps.

Up to the fourth step, it’s for the device connected to your Chromebook.

Now, before you turn sync back on, you should make sure your other device is clean. There should be no malicious software on it.

And yeah. That should remove the browser hijack on your Chromebook.

And if the above did not solve the issue, then you may have to do a powerwash.
