#55 Chromebook - Using External Storage Devices

Hi ya!

If you have images on your flash drive or SD card and want to import them into your Chromebook, then this blog post will show you how!

Same goes for if you have images (or really anything: files, music, movies, etc.) on your Chromebook and want to export them to your external storage device (flash drive, SD card, etc.)

Before we get started, make sure that the files, external devices match this list.

Moving files from the external device to the Chromebook
  • Plug the external device in one of the USB ports on the Chromebook
  • Open the Files app
  • [Back to the external device] Select the file(s) you wish to move
To select multiple files at once (but not all), shift click the ones you want
To select all the files at once, use ctrl + A
  • Drag the files from the external device to desired location on the Chromebook (Files app, Google Drive, etc.)

  • [Talking about the Files app here] Select the file(s) you wish to move

To select all the files at once, use ctrl + A
  • Drag the selected files to the USB Drive

Once you’ve finished and want to eject the external storage provider, click the arrow that is pointing up next to the external device (in this case, it’s called “USB Drive”)

Having trouble moving files to/from your Chromebook?
If so, kindly take a look at the Google Product Forums (GPF) threads below.

And that is how you move images to and from the Chromebook to an external device!
