#4 Chromebooks - How to upload files from the Files App to Google Drive.

How to upload files from the Files App to Google Drive.

Hi ya!

I’m sure a lot of you Chromebook Chromies want to use Google Drive as your main storage provider.
You can use the Files App as a place to store your files, but only temporarily.
The Files App is not meant to store your files permanently. Hence, one reason why you get such few Gigabytes of memory on it.

Here’s how you can store your important documents on Google Drive!

As of right now, there are only two ways of importing the files to Google Drive that I know of: through your File App or by directly downloading them from your Files App to Google Drive.

Let’s start with the File’s App:

Open the Files App. Done it? Good!
Now, double click (if you’re using a mouse ) or double tap (if you’re using your touch pad) on the chosen file and drag it to the Google Drive icon right above “Downloads” (make sure that you have Google Drive connected to your File App by going to chrome://settings, click on “Advanced Settings” and at “Downloads”, make sure that “Disable Google Drive on this device” is not checked).
See the image below for additional help.

Then select where you want to place it when it’s in your Google Drive!
If you want to move multiple files, there are two ways to do it:
Shift click, which allows you to select each file individually, or CTRL + A, which selects all of those files!
And just follow the above for moving them to Google Drive.
Simple enough, eh?

Now, on to downloading files to Google Drive from the Files App:

Go to Google Drive and at the top left, there’s an arrow pointing upward. Click that.

Then select the file(s) you want to upload to Google Drive!
Please note that method is for what is called “Old Google Drive.” See the below for the “New Google Drive.”

For the “New Google Drive”, click the “New” button at the top left and select “File Upload” and then select the file(s) you want to place in Google Drive!

And that is how you upload files to Google Drive from the Files App!
